Summer Youth Employment Program Details
DavidsonWorks is promoting Davidson County’s youth by helping them
develop job and life skills during the
Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). This program will provide
low to moderate income youth, between the ages of 16 and 24, with
meaningful work and training experiences during the summer.
DavidsonWorks will make approximately 100 jobs available to
participants.
Who can apply to participate in the program?
Any Davidson County resident between the ages of 16 and 24 may apply.
Federal eligibility guidelines will apply as outlined in
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Federal Stimulas Legislation) Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

One hundred participants will be chosen by a committee.
How and when do I apply?
The only way to apply for the program is to complete an application online
between Monday, April 20th and Tuesday, May 5th.
The Youth Application process ended on May 5th.
There was an overwhelming responce to this program with over 500
applications recieved.
What else do I need to do to be involved?
After application and assessment process, eligible applicants must attend
an information session during the week of May 18th-May 21st
and a certification meeting between May 26th and June 4th.
Applicants under 18 must attend both of these meetings with a parent or guardian.
More information about dates, times, and locations will be given to youth
after the application has been completed online and reviewed by DavidsonWorks.
Those whose applications have moved forward have been contacted.
To be chosen for this program, participants must provide:
- Copy of birth certificate
- Copy of social security card
- Copy of photo ID card
- Verification of the previous 6 months of income
for every family member living in their household
When does the program begin?
Prior to beginning work, all participants must attend an intense
orientation addressing job readiness and soft skills.
- Orientation for 19-24 year olds will be Monday- Friday, June 15th-19th.
- Orientation for 16-18 year olds will be Monday – Friday, June 22nd-June 26th.
- Youth who are 16-18 years of age will begin work on Monday, June 29th.
- Young adults who are 19-24 will begin work on Monday, June 22nd.
How long does the program last?
The last day of work for 16-18 year olds will be Thursday, August 13th.
The program will conclude with a celebration on Friday, August 14th.
Young adults who are 19-24 may have the opportunity to extend their work
experience for a few more weeks, depending on the needs of the employer.
Friday, July 3rd is a non-paid holiday.
All participants are expected to work the entire length of the program.
How much will I work and how much will I be paid?
- Youth will work up to 35 hours per week.
- All participants will be paid $7.25 per hour worked.
- Paychecks will be distributed at the worksite on a bi-weekly basis.
